Our Story

Art of the Purse is more of an evolution than a creation.

My love of art was brought to life about 12 years ago by a dear friend in Asheboro, NC. She nagged me for a year before finally convincing me to visit a painting group at the Randolph Arts Guild. It took only one encounter to give me a taste for the drug. I traded in my paint rollers, paint buckets and ladders for tools appropriate for watercolor painting.

Through the next decade, I ventured into acrylics and oils as well, covering every canvas and watercolor paper I could get my hands on. I gave some as gifts, sold some, did a few commissions, and framed many for myself. I even had a one-man show in Philadelphia. It was a long journey from painting walls and woodwork.

For the next step of the evolution, I became dissatisfied with viewing my art only in my home and not having it with me while out and about, since it's become such an integral part of who I am. Those that know me, know of my love of handbags. I even told my family to store my ashes in one rather than an urn. Thus, it dawned on me to put my two loves together and Art of the Purse was born.

Now that I've worked out the kinks, learned to use the tools, and developed an inventory of more bags than I could ever use, I've started making them available to family and friends. The next step, is to share "my babies" with the rest of you.

I hope you enjoy my offspring, the combination of style and art, as much as I do. It's been quite a trip and I can't wait to see what's around the next bend in the road.
